China builds a vast share of the world’s aftermarket parts, from filters pressed in Qinghe to headlamps moulded in Danyang. The catch is that quality in this industry spans everything from IATF 16949 plants supplying vehicle makers to workshops with no process control at all, and both will happily quote you. Since 2007 we have helped importers source auto parts from China by separating the first group from the second before any money moves.
One rule defines how we work in this category: we source aftermarket and OE-specification parts only, never counterfeit or trademark-infringing product. OE reference numbers are used strictly for fitment identification and cross-referencing, not for copying branded packaging or logos. If a supplier offers parts dressed up as a car maker’s originals, we walk away and advise you to do the same. Counterfeit parts are seized at customs and can be dangerous on the road.
Everything else is engineering discipline. A brake pad, a control arm or a headlamp either matches the OE dimensions and performs to the relevant standard or it does not. We collect fitment data against OE references, audit the factory’s certifications and test reports, arrange samples for you to fit and measure, and inspect production before it ships. That is how parts businesses buy from China without gambling their reputation on a container.
The industry is spread across specialised towns, each dominating a slice of the catalogue, so a serious parts programme usually draws on several of them.
Every part we quote is aftermarket or built to OE specification under the factory’s own or your private brand. We do not source counterfeit branded parts under any circumstances, and OE numbers in your enquiry are treated purely as fitment references.
Paperwork is not a formality in this category; several of these approvals decide whether your parts are legal to sell at all.
The automotive quality management standard, built on ISO 9001 with strict process control, traceability and defect prevention. Certification signals a factory runs automotive-grade discipline, and it is our default filter for safety-relevant parts. We verify certificates with the issuing body because copies do circulate.
UNECE regulations require type approval for parts such as lighting, glazing and mirrors sold in Europe, shown by an E-mark with a country code. Brake friction parts fall under ECE R90. An unmarked lamp or pad may be cheaper, but in many markets it cannot legally be fitted.
The US regulates equipment such as lighting, tyres and glazing through Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, with DOT markings indicating conformity. Responsibility sits with the manufacturer and importer, so we look for factories with genuine test reports from recognised labs rather than a stamp and a promise.
For aftermarket collision parts sold in North America, CAPA certification compares panels and lamps against OE parts for fit, materials and corrosion resistance. Insurers and distributors often prefer or require it, so it separates commodity body panels from parts you can sell into serious programmes.
Not a certificate, but the backbone of the trade: parts are identified by OE and cross-reference numbers and confirmed against vehicle application data. Used properly this is lawful and universal practice. Copying a car maker’s logo, packaging or holograms is counterfeiting, and we refuse it outright.
Minimums track the tooling behind the part. Filters, wipers, pads and other catalogue consumables are often available from around 200 to 500 pieces per reference, and factories will usually spread that across a mixed container of references for a first order. Cast and machined parts such as discs and hubs tend to start around 500 to 1,000 pieces because foundry batches are large. The expensive end is anything needing new moulds: custom lamps, bumpers or private-brand plastic parts carry tooling costs that only make sense against committed volume. Practical levers include buying from existing tooling, consolidating many references into one shipment, and building volume with one factory rather than scattering small orders. We negotiate reference by reference and tell you where a quantity genuinely will not fly.
Auto parts fail on measurables, which makes them one of the most inspectable categories we handle. For each reference we agree the checks that matter: dimensional and fitment verification against OE data, material and hardness checks on friction and cast parts, plating and corrosion testing on brightwork and fasteners, beam pattern and sealing on lamps, torque and thread checks on assemblies, and function testing on electrical parts. We review the factory’s own test reports and, for safety-critical items, commission independent lab testing on production batches. Packaging is inspected too, both for transit protection and to confirm no branding appears that should not be there. Inspection sharply reduces the risk of a bad container; it does not replace the fitment testing you should still do on arrival samples.
Most of this category is dense and forgiving: filters, pads, bearings and cast parts stack heavy and travel well by sea, often maxing out container weight before container space. Body panels and bumpers are the opposite, huge volumes of air needing racks, edge protection and careful loading to arrive without scuffs or warps. Lamps and mirror glass need fragile-goods packing and drop-tested cartons. Watch the dangerous-goods list: batteries, airbag inflators, struts charged with gas, and oils or aerosols all carry restrictions or special declarations, and EV battery products need certified DG handling. Correct HS codes and honest declared values matter, since parts shipments attract customs attention. We plan the container mix so heavy and bulky references share the cube efficiently.

We identify factories genuinely tooled for those references, verify their certifications, and return quotes with fitment data you can check against your catalogue. Samples go to you for fitting and measurement before any production decision. No, and we would encourage you to be wary of anyone who says yes. Genuine branded parts flow through the vehicle makers’ authorised channels; product offered in China as boxed originals at aftermarket prices is overwhelmingly counterfeit, which is illegal to trade, routinely seized at customs, and potentially unsafe. What we do source is the legitimate alternative: aftermarket parts and OE-specification parts produced by certified factories, sold under the factory’s brand or your own private label. OE numbers are used only to identify fitment. Done this way, the trade is lawful, insurable and sustainable.
The honest answer is that both excellent and dreadful parts come out of the same towns, sometimes the same street. Many Chinese factories produce for global aftermarket brands and hold IATF 16949, ECE approvals and CAPA certification; others cut friction material or plastic specs to win on price. The country of origin tells you almost nothing, the specific factory tells you nearly everything. That is why we audit plants, verify certificates with issuers, test samples against OE parts, and inspect production batches. Buyers who select on the lowest quote alone are the source of most horror stories.
OE numbers are the industry’s common language, and legitimate factories publish cross-reference tables mapping their catalogue to OE and major aftermarket numbers. We take your OE list, identify which clusters make each part family, and shortlist factories whose tooling already covers your references, confirming fitment against vehicle application data rather than trusting the table. Two cautions: a matching number does not prove matching quality, so samples still get measured and fitted; and the number is a reference, not a licence, so packaging and markings must carry your brand or the factory’s, never the car maker’s.
Start with IATF 16949 for the factory’s quality system, then the approvals specific to your parts and market: E-mark type approval for lighting, mirrors and glazing in Europe, ECE R90 for brake pads and discs, DOT markings and FMVSS test reports for the US, and CAPA for North American collision parts. Ask for the certificates and the underlying test reports, then verify them, because certificate numbers can be checked with issuing bodies and labs. We do this verification as standard, and treat reluctance to share documentation as a result in itself.
For catalogue parts made on existing tooling, think in the low hundreds per reference: filters, wipers and pads commonly start around 200 to 500 pieces, and factories will mix many references into one container for a first order. Heavy cast parts usually start higher because foundry batches are large. Anything needing new moulds, such as custom lamps or private-brand plastic parts, is a tooling investment justified only by real volume. A sensible first programme mixes fast-moving references at modest quantities, proves the supplier, then concentrates volume to earn better pricing on the reorder.
