Quality Control & Inspection

Quality inspection in China before your goods ship. Catch problems early, not at your warehouse

Pre-shipment quality inspection in China

Why Quality Inspection Matters

Quality problems are the number one headache when you import from China. A container of defective products can cost you thousands of dollars in returns, refunds, damaged reputation, and lost sales. The most effective way to prevent this is to inspect your products before they leave the factory.

Our quality inspection team is based in China and travels to factories across all major manufacturing regions to perform inspections at every stage of production. We use internationally recognized AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) sampling standards and provide you with detailed reports including photographs, measurements, and test results.

Types of Inspection

Pre-Production Inspection (PPI)

Conducted before manufacturing begins, this inspection verifies that raw materials, components, and production inputs meet your specifications. We check material quality, color accuracy, component compatibility, and confirm that the factory has the correct quantities of materials to complete your order.

When to use: Critical for custom or OEM products, first-time orders with a new supplier, or when using specific materials that must meet certain standards.

During Production Inspection (DPI)

Performed when approximately 20-40% of production is completed, this mid-production check catches quality issues early enough to correct them without significant cost or delay. We examine finished units from the initial production run and verify that the manufacturing process is consistent.

When to use: Recommended for large orders, complex products, or when working with a supplier for the first time. Catching a defect at 30% completion is far cheaper than discovering it after 100% is done.

Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI)

The most common and essential inspection, conducted when at least 80% of goods are finished and packed. We draw a random sample according to AQL standards and thoroughly check appearance, function, dimensions, labeling, and packaging. This is your last line of defense before goods leave China.

When to use: Every order, without exception. Even with suppliers you have worked with before, a pre-shipment inspection helps catch problems before goods leave China.

AQL Sampling Standards

We follow the ISO 2859-1 / ANSI Z1.4 standard for statistical sampling, commonly known as AQL (Acceptable Quality Level). This internationally recognized method determines how many units to inspect based on your total order quantity and the quality level you require.

The standard AQL levels we apply are:

Defect Level AQL Level Description
Critical Defects 0.0 Safety hazards or regulatory violations. Zero tolerance. Any critical defect means the lot fails.
Major Defects 2.5 Functional problems or significant appearance issues that would likely cause a customer return or complaint.
Minor Defects 4.0 Small cosmetic issues that most customers would not notice or that do not affect product function.

We can adjust AQL levels based on your specific quality requirements. Some clients with premium products request tighter standards (e.g., Major AQL 1.5), while others with commodity products may accept slightly looser tolerances.

What We Check

Visual Appearance

Surface finish, color consistency, printing quality, alignment, scratches, dents, stains, and overall workmanship compared to approved samples or specifications.

Dimensions & Weight

Critical measurements verified with calibrated tools against your specification sheet. Tolerances documented and any out-of-spec units flagged.

Functionality

Every function of the product is tested: on/off switches, moving parts, electronic components, zippers, hinges, locks, and any other operational features.

Materials & Construction

Material type and quality verified against specifications. Construction integrity checked: joints, welds, seams, adhesive bonds, and structural elements.

Labeling & Marking

Product labels, barcodes, care instructions, safety warnings, and country-of-origin markings verified for accuracy and placement.

Packaging & Packing

Inner packaging, outer carton quality, packing method, carton markings, shipping labels, and drop test results. We verify your products will survive transit.

Inspection Reporting

After each inspection, you receive a detailed report within 24 hours that includes:

  • Overall PASS / FAIL / PENDING result based on AQL criteria
  • Detailed breakdown of defects found, categorized as critical, major, or minor
  • High-resolution photographs of products, defects, packaging, and carton markings
  • Measurement data compared against your specifications
  • Functional test results
  • Quantity verification and carton condition assessment
  • Our inspector's observations and notes

We send reports via email in PDF format. For urgent inspections, we can provide preliminary results by WhatsApp on the same day as the inspection.
