What Is the Canton Fair?
The China Import and Export Fair, universally known as the Canton Fair, is the largest and most comprehensive trade event in the world. Held biannually in Guangzhou — once in spring (April-May) and once in autumn (October-November) — the fair attracts over 25,000 exhibitors and hundreds of thousands of international buyers from more than 200 countries.
Canton Fair Structure: Three Phases
Phase 1: Electronics, Machinery, and Vehicles
This phase covers electronics and household electrical appliances, lighting products, vehicles and spare parts, machinery, hardware and tools, and building materials.
Phase 2: Consumer Goods and Gifts
Phase 2 focuses on household items, kitchenware, ceramics, glassware, decorations, toys, gifts and premiums, furniture, and garden products. This phase draws the most diverse international buyer crowd.
Phase 3: Textiles, Garments, and Food
The final phase covers textiles, clothing, shoes, bags, fashion accessories, office supplies, sporting goods, and food products.
How to Prepare for Your Canton Fair Visit
- Register in advance: Registration is free for international buyers and can be completed online.
- Research exhibitors: The Canton Fair website publishes a complete exhibitor directory weeks before the event. Create a shortlist and plan your route.
- Prepare product requirements: Bring printed or digital copies of your specifications, target pricing, and quality requirements.
- Bring business cards: At least 200 cards. Consider having one side printed in Mandarin.
Navigating the Fair Effectively
The Canton Fair venue in Pazhou is one of the largest exhibition centers in the world. Wear comfortable shoes — you will walk 15,000-25,000 steps per day. Arrive when doors open for the least crowded and most focused conversations. Take detailed photos and notes at every booth, photographing product samples and business cards together so you can match them later.

Guangzhou is served by Baiyun International Airport with connections to most major cities. Hotels near the Pazhou exhibition area fill up quickly during fair dates, so book at least two months ahead. The Guangzhou Metro reaches the venue directly via Pazhou station on Line 8.
